LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Melissa Dykema has been named the PCSC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced this week. The freshman from Bellflower, Calif. had a 1.08 ERA in her first weekend of collegiate action, winning both starts and making appearances in four of the team's first five games.
After not allowing a run in the team's first game of the year, Dykema went the distance in her first collegiate start. She struck out seven and walked just one, allowing one unearned run in LMU's 6-1 win over Utah Valley State.
She followed that up with another outstanding performance against Southern Utah. She kept SUU scoreless through seven innings, setting up LMU's offensive heroics in the top of the eighth inning. With the Lions ahead 8-0, Dykema allowed just one unearned run in the bottom of the inning to record her second win. She struck out seven and walked three with six hits in the win.
Her only earned runs of the weekend came in relief against BYU in the tournament finale, allowing two earned runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Dykema and the Lions return to action this weekend when they travel to New Mexico State for the Troy Cox Classic. LMU will play Buffalo and Central Michigan in action on Friday morning.
