WCC Announces Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --  The West Coast Conference has named its Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week for February 17, 2014.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
SARAH LIRA, JR., RHP/IF, SAINT MARY'S
Junior Sarah Lira helped the Gaels to two wins at the San Diego State Campbell/Cartier Classic over the weekend.  She hit safely in three games, including two, three-hit games.  She went 7-for-15 at the plate with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI.  She hit .467 in all games.  

In addition to her work at the plate, Lira was strong in the circle for SMC, tossing 18.2 innings, allowing 13 hits, four earned runs and seven strikeouts, she won two games, with wins over South Dakota and No. 23 California.  For the week she had a 1.50 ERA.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KATIE MANUMA, SR., IF, BYU
Senior infielder Katie Manuma showed off her versatility during last week's Easton Desert Classic. In the opening game of the tournament she went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs, while pitching two innings for the win. She finished the week hitting .470 with three doubles, a home run, eight RBIs, six runs, two walks and a stolen base. She also received her second win from the circle against Portland State.
