LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After going 6-1 last week, the LMU softball team swept the weekly PCSC awards. Freshman Christine Foley was named the conference's Player of the Week, and Tiffany Pagano became the second straight Lion to earn Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Freshman first baseman Foley had a monster weekend at the Troy Cox Classic with four multi-hit and three multi-RBI games. She hit .500 for the week with five doubles, 10 RBI and a home run.
Foley was 1-for-6 in a doubleheader against Northern Colorado, but she rebounded with four straight multi-hit games. She was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI against Buffalo, followed by a 2-for-3 performance against Central Michigan. Her two RBI in that game represented the game-winning runs. Foley followed with a perfect 4-for-4 performance against UTEP with a home run, three RBI, a double, and two runs scored. Her three-run home run gave LMU a 3-0 lead.
But she wasn't done yet. Foley followed with a 3-for-4 performance with two doubles against Texas-Arlington, driving in a run in every at-bat of the game. She finally came back down to earth with an 0-for-4 outing against New Mexico State.
Over the first four games of the tournament, Foley was 11-for-14 (.786) with 10 RBI.
Pagano finished the week with a 0.98 earned run average and a 3-0 record with two complete-game shutouts.
Pagano pitched a no-hitter against Northern Colorado, striking out 13, then followed with an eight strikeout performance while allowing just one run in 4.1 innings against Buffalo. Pagano pitched her second complete-game shutout of the week against UTEP, striking out seven in 6.0 innings.
For the week, Pagano pitched 18.1 innings and had a 3-0 record allowing just two runs and 10 hits with 30 strikeouts.
Last week, freshman Melissa Dykema earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday when they host Hawaii in a doubleheader at Smith Field at noon.
