SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has named its Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week for February 24, 2014.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
SYDNEY GOUVEIA, SO., RHP, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
Sydney Gouveia went 4-0 with 28 strikeouts and a 0.33 ERA in four appearances last week as the LMU softball team went 4-1 at the Amy S. Harrison Classic in Riverside. The sophomore hurler began the weekend with her first career no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Seattle. She fanned 10 and walked there in seven complete innings. In the Lions' second game of the day, she tossed 1.2 innings of relief, to earn the win over CSU Bakersfield. She also recorded one at-bat in the game, drawing an RBI walk and later scoring her first collegiate run as the Lions won 12-4 in nine innings.
Against the host UC Riverside Highlanders, Gouveia recorded six strikeouts to go along with two walks, five hits and one earned run in a 5-3 victory. She closed out tournament play with her second 10-strikeout, complete-game performance in a 1-0 shutout of CSUB on Sunday. The one-hitter was the fourth of her career while she now has 15 double-digit strikeout performances in her career.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
TAYLOR PETTY, SR., OF, PACIFIC
For the second week in a row, senior outfielder Taylor Petty helped lead the Tigers' offensive charge. At the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, Petty recorded five RBI, roped a pair of doubles and drew seven walks, including a walk-off RBI walk to beat Oklahoma State. The senior led the team in runs, hits, doubles, RBI, total bases, slugging percentage, walks and on-base percentage while playing error free softball in the outfield..
