LOS ANGELES, CA - Freshman Hillaree Bennett was named the PCSC Player of the Week, the conference announced today. The outfielder from Visalia, CA, hit .529 over five games at the Aztec Invitational with four home runs and 15 RBI. Her slugging percentage for the weekend was an impressive 1.294 with an on-base percentage of .556. She hit a grand slam and a two-run home run for six RBI against Indiana State.
In the first game of the tournament against ISU, Bennett had a breakout game, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and driving in six of LMU's seven runs. She was 3-for-4 with three RBI against Wagner. Against Kentucky, she was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored on a double and a three-run home run. The outfielder drove in both of LMU's runs in the 6-2 loss to Western Kentucky in the tournament's final game.
Bennett recorded a hit in every game of the tournament, and now has an eight game hitting streak. Just as impressive, she struck out just two times in the tournament.
The Lions head back to San Diego next weekend for another tournament hosted by San Diego State. Next week's tournament is the Aztec Classic, and features an impressive field including Fresno State and Oregon. LMU will open the tournament by facing the Ducks on Friday at 9:00am.
