Santa Clara, Calif. - Due to impending rain this weekend, the Santa Clara-Arizona State softball game at Marsalli Park Thursday night has now been changed to a doubleheader, announced head coach Steve Rianda. The two squads will now face off at 4 and 6 p.m. One of Santa Clara's games was canceled last weekend in Los Angeles, Calif. due to rain, so Thursday's showdown with Arizona State will be a chance for the Broncos to fill that gap in their schedule.
While Thursday night at Marsalli Park marks the first home game for Santa Clara, it will also be Teacher Appreciation Night. Professors of Santa Clara University are encouraged to come out and support the softball team on this occasion. Professor Sean Everton, who teaches Religion on the Mission Campus, will throw out the first pitch to kick off the 2006 home season.
Following the Arizona State doubleheader, Santa Clara (7-11) will participate in the NIST-Twin Creeks Tournament, where Colorado State (3 p.m.) and No. 6 California (5 p.m.) await in the first round on Friday afternoon.
