WCC Announces Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

COMPOSITE 2014 SCHEDULE

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has named its Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week for April 7, 2014. 

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
CASSIDY COLEMAN, SR., RHP, SAN DIEGO
Senior Cassidy Coleman threw a no hitter against BYU (4/4/14) in the first softball league game in West Coast Conference history. She was dominant, striking out a season-high 13 and only let one ball out of the infield. It was the third no-hitter in San Diego history. 

On Saturday, she held the Cougars in check for the first six innings allowing just one run before BYU rallied to score three in the top of the seventh inning. She ended up with nine strikeouts (22 for the weekend) and helped USD go 1-1 in her two starts

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SYDNEY BRODERICK, FR., C/OF, BYU
Freshman catcher Sydney Broderick came through in the clutch when the Cougars needed it and earns WCC weekly honors for the second straight week. Broderick recorded a walk-off bunt single on Tuesday against Utah State and then tallied the go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the seventh in the series finale at San Diego. She finished the week with a .500 batting average, two doubles, two home runs and six RBI. In the second game of the series against San Diego, Broderick helped BYU get on the board for the first time in the series with a double to right field. She drew a walk in the seventh to load the bases and allow the sacrifice fly opportunity that proved to be the difference in the game.
