The University of San Diego senior outfielder Gina McFarland was named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference player of the week for her stellar performance last weekend against the Sacramento State Hornets.
McFarland finished the weekend hitting 7-for-11 (.636) one double, three RBI, and four runs scored. Her RBI double in game three of the series allowed Sara Mason to score tying the game at 4-4. McFarland eventually came around to score recapturing the lead 5-4. USD went on to win that game 9-8.
San Diego, 20-18 overall and 8-4 in the PCSC, travels to the Pacific Northwest to take on the first place Vikings of Portland State University. This four-game series is pivotal for USD in order to maintain second place in the PCSC standings. The Vikings are 26-13 overall and 8-1 in the PCSC giving up their first conference loss to Santa Clara this past weekend.
San Diego also announced that the start time for this Sunday's doubleheader, scheduled for noon at Erv Lind Stadium, has been changed to 11 a.m. The change was made to accommodate the Toreros' travel plans.
