San Diego Celebrates Senior Day On Sunday At USD Softball Complex

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team (22-26, 6-12 PCSC) posted a pair of losses to the Portland State University Vikings (23-32, 8-9 PCSC) Saturday afternoon on day one of their final homestand of the season. The Vikings held the Toreros scoreless 0-1 in the first game and then run-ruled USD in game two 12-1.

USD tallied five hits, one of which was a triple by Nichole Valenzuela. However, the Toreros were unable to push across a run.

In game two, the Vikings posted four runs in the first inning, six runs in the third inning, and two runs in the second innings.

San Diego's one run came in the second inning when Jennifer Ellenbeck hit a single into left field. Celine Pujol followed with a triple up the middle into the outfield scoring Ellenbeck.

Offensively for USD, Nichole Valenzuela hit a combined 3-for-6 with one triple. Kathleen Bonja hit 2-for-5, while Celine Pujol hit 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Defensively for San Diego, Christina Haake recorded a complete game striking out five batters.

The Toreros return Sunday afternoon to the USD softball complex for senior day to honor veterans Christina Haake, Danielle Treiber, Alicia Massie, and Virginia Fritsch. The ceremony will begin at approximately 11:40 a.m. prior to the first of two games scheduled for noon.
