Foley Earns Final PCSC Weekly Honor

May 7, 2007

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Freshman Christine Foley has been named the PCSC Player of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced today. Foley hit .615 to lead the Lions to a series sweep over Santa Clara. She hit the game-winning home run in LMU's 2-1 win, and was a perfect 4-for-4 in the series opener. In that game, she hit her 17th double of the season to break the LMU single season doubles record.

It has been a fine freshman season for Foley, who raised her batting average to .411 and now leads the team and the conference in hitting. She is on pace to break the LMU single season batting average record of .410.

She had a monster day on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI in game one. The double broke the LMU single season record for doubles, giving her 17 on the season. Her heroics continued in game two, as she hit the game-winning two-run home run in the top of the 6th inning to give the Lions the 2-1 victory.

In game one on Sunday, she was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and wrapped up the weekend with a 2-for-3 performance, driving in three more runs and hitting her second home run of the weekend. Her first two RBIs in Sunday's game two broke the 1-1 tie and gave the Lions the lead for good.

Her weekly totals were: .615 batting average (8-for-13) with a double, two home runs, 8 RBI, 0 strikeouts, 1.154 slugging percentage.

This is the third time this season and the second time in PCSC play that Foley has been named the PCSC Player of the Week. Coincidently, the other conference week that she earned the honor was when the Lions were on the road at Sacramento State and she hit an identical .615 batting average. LMU played 8 PCSC games on the road this season, and Foley hit .615 in those 8 games.

Foley and the Lions can relax this week and will await the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday to find out where they will open NCAA Tournament play. First round games begin on May 18th.
