SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Pacific Coast Softball Conference announced its 2006 Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizing student-athletes who maintained a high level of excellence both on and off the field. Recipients of this award were required to maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher through out the school year and participate in service contributing to either the university or the community.
The Toreros were honored with six Commissioner Honor Roll athletes all of whom held a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA during the 2005-2006 academic school year. Seniors Sara Mason, Gina McFarland, and Marissa Merchain, and freshman Kelly Nesseth, Kim Milkovich, and Katie Burk all received the PCSC award.
Catcher Sara Mason, a sociology major and a Spanish and philosophy minor, finished with a 3.71 GPA. Outfielder Gina McFarland, an accounting major and a mathematics minor, finished with a 3.63 GPA. Catcher Marissa Merchain, a psychology and chemistry double major, finished with a 3.01 GPA.
For the freshman, second base Kim Milkovich, a history major, finished with a 3.86 GPA. Outfielder Kelly Nesseth, a chemistry major and mathematics minor, finished with a 3.43 GPA. Outfielder Katie Burk, a sociology major and theology minor, finished with a 3.22 GPA.
Head coach Melissa McElvain and her staff could not be more proud of this years student-athlete award winners and is looking forward to 2007 season.
