SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team debut's in their non traditional season this coming weekend as they host a mini-tournament with UC San Diego and Cerritos Community College. The games during their non traditional season do not count towards their spring season but is simply a way to look at players and prepare for the spring.
"We are excited to open our fall season at home this Saturday," head coach Melissa McElvain said. "Our team has worked extremely hard, both on and off the field for the past several weeks. I believe our efforts will lead to a successful four week fall season."
The USD tournament this weekend kicks off with UC San Diego and Cerritos C.C. playing at 11:00 a.m. at the Torero Softball Complex. That game is followed by San Diego vs. Cerritos C.C. at 1:00 p.m. The Toreros then play cross town rival UC San Diego at 3:00 p.m.
"We have a great group this year from veterans to rookies," McElvain explained. "Our team is full of hard work, effort and a positive attitude. Our goal for the fall is to come together as a team and build a solid foundation for our traditional spring season."
