Moraga, CA -- The Saint Mary's softball team participated in four fall competitions this past weekend. The Gaels came out victorious in three of the four matches with wins over Notre Dame de Namur, San Francisco State and conference rival Santa Clara.
Senior hurlers Lauren Gardner and Kate Albaugh both had strong showings this weekend. Gardner threw 5.0 innings and Albaugh closed the door in a one hit shut out over the San Francisco State Gators. Overall, Gael pitchers allowed only five earned runs while striking out 10 batters this weekend.
The Gaels shut out San Fransisco State in a 5-0 victory. The Gaels were given all the offense that they would need when junior Megan Galloway struck a ball into the cheap seats, plating three runs. On the weekend Galloway batted .333 (3-9) with a double, a home run and 4 RBI.
Saint Mary's flexed their offensive muscles in a 9-1 win over PCSC rival Santa Clara. The Gaels offense was once again led by the long-ball. Senior Lauren Mello and sophomore Lauren Clark both homered as part of the nine run offensive explosion. Overall, Clark batted .455 (5-11) with a home run and 2 RBI. Mello batted .357 (5-14) with a double, a home run and 2 RBI.
The Gaels also showed their ability to play small-ball this weekend. Junior Sandra Ruezga stole four bases while batting an impressive .461 (6-13), with two doubles and an RBI.
Saint Mary's will close its fall competitions on Saturday, October 28 when they host the SMC Fall Softball Classic. The Gaels will face off against Sonoma State at 12:30 and against Feather River at 2:30.
