Moraga, CA - On a beautiful day in San Francisco last Saturday, Saint Mary's athletic teams and administrators participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5-mile walk. This marks the sixth year the softball team has participated in the walk and the second year for the lacrosse program and spirit team. Together, this group raised over $2,700 in support of the American Cancer Society's fight against breast cancer.
The event took place in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, where over 21,000 walkers turned out to support the cause. The 2006 Bay Area Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk raised $770,000! Saint Mary's was happy to contribute to the efforts, as the teams each designed shirts specifically for the event.
"This is an event that we circle on our calendar every year. It's empowering to walk with so many survivors and individuals that are dedicated to fighting this disease. It's also great opportunity for us to come together as a team and support something we care about, " said head softball coach Jessica Hanaseth.
