SAN DIEGO - With less than a month remaining until the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference (PCSC) Championships, Loyola Marymount hit the road this weekend to take on defending champion UC San Diego in dual action. The Lions (5-5) fell 163-99 at UCSD's Canyonview Pool, but received event-winning swims from Lauren Mathewson, Angela Samuels, and the 200 yard medley team.
Mathewson and Samuels combined with Morgan Finley and Alex Wike to open the dual with an LMU win, as the four won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.40. The Lions also took third in the event, with Mallorie Lim, Sarah Hamilton, Trinity O'Neill, and Liz Magura earning a time of 1:52.33.
Mathewson went on to win the 100 backstroke in 57.87.
Samuels gave the Lions another boost when she won the 100 butterfly in 58.09.
In addition to the 200 medley relay, LMU placed two teams in the top-3 in the 1000 free (Rebecca Plume, Julia Hall), 200 free (Alicia Witter, Danielle Garcia), 100 breast (Finley, Samuels), 50 free (Magura, Mathewson), and the 400 freestyle relays (Wike, Lim, Witter, Mathewson and Samuels, Garcia, Melanie Tansuwan, Kim McKay).
The Lions will host Pepperdine in their last home meet of the season next Saturday, January 20. The meet will begin at 11:30 a.m.
