USD Splits, Losing To Nevada-Reno, Defeating Cal-Poly

Reno, Nevada, - The Toreros traveled to Reno, Nevada where they were defeated by the Wolfpack 156.5-125.5, and went on to defeat Cal-Poly 189-108 on Saturday afternoon in a three-way meet.

San Diego finished with eight 1st place finishes and four 2nd place finishes in the 16 event meet.

"It was nice to pick up a win on the road," said head coach Mike Keeler.

Senior Ashley Swart finished with three 1st place finishes. She clocked a 1:53.92 in the 200 freestyle, then in the 100 freestyle had a 53.58 and ended with a 5:08.10 in the 500 freestyle.

Sophomore Joy Miller swam a 100 butterfly in 59.33 good enough for 1st place, then swam a 200 butterfly in 2:10.20 capturing 2nd place.

Freshman Erin Voyles took 2nd place in the 1000 freestyle in 11:00.25, Junior Meghan Peter took 1st place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.31, Senior Kelly Cobourn took second place in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.24, and Senior Ashley Rose swam a 2:15.98 in the 200 individual medley.

Freshman Diver Ashley Frederickson took first place in the 1 meter diving event scoring 198.65, while junior diver Kristin Frick took second with a score of 175.10.

The Toreros 200 freestyle relay, which included senior Ashley Swart, junior Leoho'onani Reyes, senior Kelly Cobourn, freshman Erin Voyles swam to first place in a time of 1:42.23.

"The team swam really well, considering we were at 4500 ft altitude," said Keeler."We had some people swim really well."

San Diego returns home to take on Northern Arizona on Friday, January 20 at 2:00 pm at the USD Swim Complex.
