Toreros Celebrate Senior Day at Last Home Meet

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swimming and diving team closed out the regular season with a meet against cross-town San Diego State. The Toreros were up 70-61 after the first seven events. However, the Aztecs took the win from the Toreros, 177-123, in the end.

Despite the loss, the day featured the four seniors graduating this spring, Kristin Frick, Kiffany Gardner, Meghan Peter, and Shala Van Gerpen.

Frick and Gardner participated in the diving event at the SDSU campus. Frick scored a 178.35 in the 1 meter event while Gardner finished with a 145.95. In the 3 meter event, Gardner scored a 130.65 while Frick finished with a 187.35.

Meghan Peter captured a first place finish for the Toreros in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.95. Shala Van Gerpen took a second place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:13.28.

Other top finishes included a first and second place victory for Erin Voyles. Her first place finish came in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.21 and her second place finish came in the 100 freestyle with a tie of 53.84.

Sarah Gleason took second place in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:32.62. Aileen Fedrick posted a first place finish with a time of 1:01.63 in the 100 backstroke. Joy Miller tallied a first place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.34. Tina Levesque also captured a first place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.90.

The Toreros have a weekend to prepare for conference which is February 14-17 in San Antonio, Texas.
