Long Beach, Calif. - After two days of competition at the PCSC Championships, Loyola Marymount sits in third place out of 15 teams participating. The Lions received their biggest day two boost from Katie Hicks and Lauren Mathewson, who helped LMU to a two-three finish in the 50 free and a second place finish in the 200 free relay.
The Lions' 326 points has them sitting in third place behind defending champion UC San Diego (471) and Pepperdine (326). The Lions topped Pepperdine during the regular season and will look to gain ground on the Waves to reach their goal of a program-best second place finish.
Competing head-to-head for the first time, Hicks (23.72) and Mathewson (23.79) finished second and third in the 50 free. The two then joined Angela Samuels and Liz Magura to swim the 200 free relay in 1:36.99 for second place.
Sophomore Maggie Brophy recorded a sixth place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.73, and Samuels took eighth in the 200 IM (2:11.76).
Competition continues through Saturday at the PCSC Championships at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif.
