Malibu, Calif. -
Freshman Michelle Sutherland claimed the overall high point mark for the Waves in Saturday's Malibu Invitational at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. Sutherland competed in five sprint heats and three distance heats on her way to the honor.
Bolstering Sutherland's point total was her sweep of the butterfly events. Sweeping the races, Sutherland won the 50 (27.14), 100 (1:00.16) and 200 (2:16.80). Sutherland also won the high point distance meet for the Waves.
The sprint meet crown was taken by Junior Ketrina Lemmen who finished first in the 50 backstroke and the 100 backstroke, and second in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
Lindsay Stephens highlighted the efforts of the Pepperdine diving team as she reached the qualifying mark for the NCAA. Stephens finished first in both the one meter and three meter dives.
The Waves will next compete in the Big West Shootout November 5-7 in Irvine. The three-day event will give the Waves their first test scoring against other schools.
