Swimming holds sole possession of 9th place at Speedo Cup

The University of San Diego swimming and diving team finished day one of the Speedo Cup in ninth place with 137 points ahead of WAC opponent Northern Arizona University.

The Toreros started out in ninth place on day one last year however fell to 11th after the final two days of competition.

Due to the sheer size of the event, day one featured only five events: 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, and the 400 medley relay.

The USD A squad (Meghan Peter, Jen Leopold, Tina Leveque, Kristen Yoon) swam to a 10th place finish with a time of 1:39.80. The USD B squad (Laura Pope, Aileen Fedrick, Joy Miller, Claire Altenau) finished in a time of 1:44.66 and the C squad (Michon Affinito, Brittany Cramer, Kelle Griffith, Alyssa Martinez) recorded a time of 1:52.84.

In the 500 freestyle, Sarah Gleason took ninth place overall with a finals time of 5:04.63. Erin Voyles followed with a final time of 5:12.37 good enough for 15th place.

Meghan Peter swam the 200 IM in 2:09.76 for 14th place. Tina Leveque swam the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.81 capturing 17th place.

In the 400 medley relay, the Torero A squad (Yoon, Peter, Miller, Voyles) swam a 4:01.26 taking 8th place overall.

San Diego continues day two of the three-day event with 137 points and sole possession of ninth place.
