Long Beach, Calif. - Highlighted by a third place finish in the 200 medley relay and a sixth place finish for Lauren Mathewson in the 100 backstroke, day two of competition at the 2005 Speedo Cup finished with the Lions remaining in 10th place among the competitive field.
Seeded in the top-eight, the Lions' 200 medley relay team took home a third place finish Friday with a mark of 1:47.6, just about .3 off the school record set last season.
Individually, junior Lauren Mathewson finished sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.77.
Sarah Hamilton finished 13th in the 100 breaststroke, with a time just .6 off the school record in 1:07.64.
LMU's 800 free relay team took 11th.
With 157 total points, the Lions remain in 10th place, now 10 points behind ninth place San Diego. LMU is just 20 points out of its goal of eighth place, and the Lions remain two points ahead of Pepperdine.
The 19 teams on the women's side will complete competition Saturday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
