LONG BEACH, Calif. - After scoring points in each of the seven events on Friday's day two program, Loyola Marymount swimming sits in eighth place of 30 programs at the UC Irvine Speedo Cup. The Lions, who sit less than 30 points out of the top-5, will look for a strong finish Saturday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif.
Mathewson finished second in the 100 back in 56.05.
Hamilton's 1:07.84 in the 100 breast was good for 14th place and 25 additional points.
Freshman Trinity O'Neill finished 15th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:38.41.
Samuels' 17th place finish in the 100 fly (58.44) contributed to the Lions' total of 334.5 points after two days of competition.
Witter also snagged points for the Lions after a 23rd place finish in the 200 free in 1:58.92.
The Lions were one of just five teams to pick up points from each of the seven events in day two action. LMU trails only BYU, USC, UC San Diego, the host Anteaters, San Jose State, Colorado State, and Pepperdine heading into the final day of competition. The Lions posted a program-best ninth place finish at the 2005 UCI Speedo Cup.
