LOS ANGELES - Returning to action after a two-week break in competition, Loyola Marymount swimming will host Alaska Fairbanks in a morning exhibition dual Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Burns Aquatic Center. The Lions and Nanooks, both preparing for the weekend's Ayres Invitational in Irvine, Calif., will take to the pool in friendly competition Thursday.
In preparation for Saturday's competitive Ayres Invitational, both LMU and Alaska Fairbanks have spent the week training at the Burns Aquatic Center. The week of training will culminate with Thursday's exhibition dual.
The teams will use a 13-event format, with some changes to the standard distances and events. LMU and UAF will then enjoy lunch together following the exhibition.
The Lions enter the week with a 5-4 record in dual action. LMU and UAF last faced each other at the Speedo Cup in mid-November, where the Lions recorded a program-best seventh place finish. The Nanooks finished 15th of the 23 participating teams at the Speedo Cup, their last competition of the fall semester.
The Ayres Invitational will run Saturday and Sunday, with LMU participating in Saturday's events only. Saturday will feature sprint events in the morning and distance events in the afternoon.
Thursday's exhibition dual will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Burns Aquatic Center and admission is free.
