Women's Swimming Back in Action at UC Irvine Invitational

Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team returns to competition on Saturday when it participates at the UC Irvine Invitational. The meet will open with sprints at 9 a.m. followed by distance events in the afternoon, while relays will round out competition on Sunday. There will also be a diving meet.

Joining Pepperdine at the Anteater Pool is Boise State, BYU, Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Lehigh, LMU, San Diego, San Diego State, San Jose State, Washington, Wyoming, Alaska-Fairbanks, Biola, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State East Bay, Chapman, Whitman and host UC Irvine.

Last year, the Waves finished fourth in the sprints and placed in the top ten of every relay invitational event they participated in. In diving, Lindsay Adarme took third place in the diving invitational.

The fall was highlighted by senior Alison McLeod's performance in the 100 fly as she qualified for the NCAA's with a time of 55.26, which also broke the Pepperdine record. McLeod also set new records in the 50 back and 200 IM and set new meet records at the LMU Pentathlon in the 100 fly and free and the 200 IM.

Freshman Danielle Kimmel also had a breakout fall season, breaking the school record in the 100 breast at the Malibu Invitational and broke her own record at the Speedo Cup in Nov.

McLeod, Kimmel, Amy Nightingale and Haley Wilson set school records in the 200 and 400 medley relays.
