Los Angeles, Calif. - A busy two weeks for Loyola Marymount swimming will begin Thursday, when the Lions take on Pepperdine at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, Calif. Wasting no time, the Lions will return to the Burns Aquatic Center to host Cal Poly and Northern Colorado Friday at 2:00 p.m.
After Thursday's meet in Malibu, the Lions will host three meets in the span of a week. The two weeks of competition will prepare LMU for the PCSC Championships February 8-11 in Long Beach, Calif.
The Lions defeated the Waves for the first time in program history in 2005. The success then carried over to the fall season, where LMU got the best of Pepperdine at the LMU Pentathlon, with the Lions claiming two of the three competition titles. LMU then topped Pepperdine again at the Speedo Cup, where LMU finished ninth and the Waves took 12th.
But the Lions will face a tough test Thursday, as the Waves will gain an automatic point advantage from competing in diving. LMU does not sponsor a diving team, so Pepperdine will automatically earn the points from the diving events.
In addition, LMU will be without the services of Lauren Mathewson, who will sit out due to injury. Mathewson is expected to miss both Thursday and Friday's competitions.
