LOS ANGELES - Loyola Marymount swimming begins competition at the 2007 PCSC Championship, looking for another strong showing at the event that last year led to a third-straight top-5 finish. The four-day PCSC event opens Wednesday, February 7th, at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.
The Lions hold several top seeds heading into the championship, including the No. 1 seed in the 200 medley relay and the 50 free (Lauren Mathewson).
Other top-8 seeds for the Lions include a second relay team in the 200 medley relay, two teams in the 200 and 800 free and the 400 medley relays, Trinity O'Neill in the 200 and 400 IM and 200 fly, Alex Wike in the 50 and 100 free, Angela Samuels in the 400 IM and 100 and 200 fly, Morgan Finley in the 100 and 200 breast, Sarah Hamilton in the 100 breast, Mathewson in the 100 and 200 back and 100 free, and Melanie Tansuwan in the 200 fly.
Throughout the season, the Lions have faced many of the teams they will see at the conference championship, including three-time defending champion UC San Diego.
The Lions concluded the 2006-07 regular season campaign 7-5 in dual action, the program's third straight winning season under Head Coach Bonnie Adair.The mark of seven dual victories is the second-highest in program history. The 2005-06 team went 9-5 in dual action, bringing the record over the last two seasons to 16-10.
The conference championships will run from Wednesday, February 7th through Saturday, February 10th at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.
