Malibu, CA - Ketrina Lemmen named Pepperdine Swimmer of the Year. Ketrina finished 2nd in the PCSC Championships in the 100 back with a time of 58.09, just 1 tenth of a second off the school record. Ketrina was 4th in the 100 Free with a time of 52.3. Ketrina added great relay times to add to her performance.
Divers dominate the Conference again, lead by Pepperdine Diver of the Year, Lindsay Stephens (2nd place), Emily Andrews, Gina Warren and Devyn Schumacher. All finished in the finals (top 8), and Elizabeth Kress, who after only diving for 3 months, scored in the 1 meter event. This was the last meet for senior Emily Andrews, who has been a finalist in both boards for 4 years.
Most Improved Swimmer Award goes to Jaime Lyon who started the season with times that would not come close to PCSC times. Jaime scored points in all the tough events...400 IM, 200 Back, 200 Fly...having to swim both 200 yard events twice on Saturday. "Amazing Double" and always smiling.
Outstanding Freshman Awards go to Kady Skora and Michelle Sutherland.Kady Skora (the shark) placed 4th in the 1650 with a time of 17:53. She swam a 5:10 in the 500 free.
Michelle Sutherland posted times of 2:10 in the 200 IM, 2:12 in the 200 Fly, and 59 in the 100 fly. Both butterfly swims came in the finals. She added two 100 frees in two relays with 53-54's.
Most Surprising Award goes to Heather Brehmer. Heather had nothing but great swims...24.9 in the 50 free, 56 100 free, 1:01 in the 100 fly...swimming well in 10 events.
Come Back Swimmer Award goes to Nicole Okuna, who was out all season with "mono". Nicole came back to finish a very close 4th in the 100 fly with a 57.6 and then came back with 2 great relay swims.
Chelsea Zink was a finalist in the 200 back with a 2:11. She also swam a great 100 back with a 1:01.
Lauryn Velarde made the semi finals in the 400 IM, 100 and 200 Breast.
Lauryn and Chelsea were named "Honorary Captains...great work on the T-Shirts (thanks to Nicole too). These shirts will be "classics".
Megan Kelly was a finalist in the 200 IM, which was a tough event in which to make finals.
Samantha Orange made her last meet a good one...qualifying in the 200 & 400 IM as well as the 200 Fly HAPPY GRADUATION SAMI!
Loriann Mark almost qualified in her first attempted 200 Butterfly swim.
