LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After defeating Seattle University and the University of Alaska Fairbanks last week, the Loyola Marymount swimming team will look to continue its success this Saturday as it travels to Malibu, Calif. to swim in the Malibu Invitational at Pepperdine's Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. The Sprint meet will begin at 9:30 and will be followed by the diving and distance events.
Senior Angela Samuels was a perfect three-for-three in her events on Thursday to lead LMU past Seattle University, 122-83. Samuels teamed with Alex Wike, Mallorie Lim and Megan Sawelson to capture the 200 Yard Medley Relay and the first event of the meet before she earned first place finishes in the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard breaststroke.
Junior Rebecca Plume had a great day in the water in the first of two weekend-victories over the University of Alaska Fairbanks, taking second place in the 1650 Yard Freestyle event in 18:27.18. The junior went on to capture the top spot in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:18.71, and served as the second swimmer in LMU's first place 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team that touched in 1:42.12. Sawelson, Melanie Tansuwan and Wike rounded out the winning relay team. Loyola Marymount won the Saturday dual meet by a score of 127-78. In Sunday's dual meet against the Nanooks, LMU used their strength in the short distance races to defeat Alaska, 117-87. Sophomore Sawelson won both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events to help the Lions to the victory.
After taking part in the Malibu Invitational this weekend, LMU will return to the water on November 3 at the Big West Shootout in Irvine, Calif.
