Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team had a successful meet at the Malibu Invitational at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on Saturday afternoon. It was the team's first fall competition of the season and its season opener.
Sophomore Katharine Skora took the high point for Pepperdine in the distance meet after placing first overall in the 500 free (5:19.95), fourth overall in the 200 free (2:00.63) and fifth overall in the 200 IM (2:19.02). Senior Chelsea Zink also performed well in the meet placing second overall in the 200 backstroke (2:14.49), while senior teammate Lauren Velarde took first place in the 200 breast (2:26.88).
In the sprint meet, junior Alison McLeod captured the team high after she took the overall first place in the 50 fly with an impressive time of 25.68 and the 100 fly with a time of 57.72. She also took second place in the 100 backstroke (59.76).
Junior Lindsay Stephens led the way for Pepperdine's diving team and took the overall high point mark for both the one meter and three meter dives.
The Waves are next in action at the Big West Shootout on November 4-5 at Irvine, California.
