LOS ANGELES, CA - After hitting the water for a tune-up at the Malibu Invitational last week, the Loyola Marymount swimming team will travel to Irvine, Calif. to swim in the Big West Shootout at UC Irvine's Anteater Pool.
The Shootout is a two-day event in two pools. On Friday there will be five men's teams and four women's teams competing in one pool and four more women's teams competing in a second pool. The event will be scored as dual meets for each team competing against the other schools in their pool. The top two women's teams in each pool Friday will compete against one another in the same format Saturday. LMU has elected to not participate in Friday's events and will instead enter the water for the first time on Saturday.
The five men's teams competing in the Shootout are UC Irvine, Cal Poly, Hawaii, BYU and Cal State Northridge. The seven other women's teams are UCI, UC Davis, Hawaii, BYU, Cal State Northridge, San Diego and Pepperdine.
LMU continued its success last weekend in Malibu, Calif., highlighted by the LMU "A" team's first-place finish in the 300 yard Freestyle Relay. LMU "B" claimed sixth place in the race, finishing the relay in 2:35.38 and LMU "C" rounded out the top-10 in 10th with a time of 2:45.14.

LMU also claimed the eighth through 11th spots in the race, with seniors Alicia Royal (:29.45) and Kim McKay (:29.52), sophomore Alicia Witter (:29. 58) and sophomore Melanie Tansuwan (:29.68) finishing in those spots, respectively. Freshman Aja Kusao finished 14th on the list with a time of :30.02 to round out the top-20 LMU swimmers in that event.
