Pepperdine Swimming and Diving Continues Competition at Big West Shootout

Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team took the pool on Friday for the first day of competition at the Big West Shootout in Irvine, Calif. The Waves put up impressive times against some of the top schools and had numerous top-ten finishes.

Lauren Velarde led the way for the Waves with a sixth-place finish overall in the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.61 as well as a tenth-place finish overall in the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.79. Also placing in the top-ten were Heather Brehmer and newcomer Haley Wilson, who placed sixth (24.80) and seventh (24.85), respectively, in the 50 free. Wilson also captured a tenth-place finish in the 100 free (53.66).

Nicole Okuna finished seventh with a time of 58.54 in the 100 fly, while Ketrina Lemmen placed ninth in the 100 free (53:55) and tenth in the 100 back (1:00.54).

Lindsay Stephens led the way for the Waves in diving as she placed ninth in the 1-meter dive and eighth in the 3-meter dive.
