Los Angeles, Calif. - Loyola Marymount swimming will open its home season Saturday when the Lions host Pepperdine and Cal State Northridge for the second annual LMU Pentathlon. The three-team competition begins at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Aquatic Center.
For the second straight year, LMU, Pepperdine, and Cal State Northridge will compete in the Pentathlon, with each swimmer individually entering one of the three competitions: the short medley, long medley, or freestyle. Each competition includes five races, with the swimmers' times being added from each of their five races. Within each competition, the swimmer with the lowest time will be declared the winner.
The 2004 Pentathlon saw the Lions claim two of the three competition titles. Angela Samuels and Maggie Brophy won the short medley and the freestyle events respectively, while Liz Magura took second in the long medley events.
"Saturday's Penathlon is going to be very competitive, as all three schools are fairly equal in ability," Head Coach Bonnie Adair said. "Placing in the top-10 will be difficult."
The Pentathlon will be the first of four home dates for the Lions, and the only one during the fall semester. The Lions will spend much of January at home, hosting their remaining three home competitions on January 20th, 25th, and 27th.
