Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team once again triumphed over its competition this weekend as they competed in the LMU Pentathlon on Saturday at the Burns Aquatic Center in Los Angeles, Calif. The meet included Pepperdine, Cal State Northridge and the host Lions.
Each swimmer individually entered one of the three competitions: sprint events, middle events and freestyle. Each competition included five races, with the swimmers' times being added from each of their five races. Within each competition, the swimmer with the lowest time was declared the winner.
The Waves won the freestyle event, capturing first and second place. Freshman Haley Wilson swam to first place with a time of 6:13.13, while junior Alison McLeod wasn't far behind as she placed second with a time of 6:14.09. In the short medley pentathlon, senior Nicole Okuna placed second (2:56.40), while sophomore Loriann Mark took a third-place finish in the freestyle pentathlon with a time of 15:17.83.
McLeod captured three first-place finishes: 100 butterfly (58.71), 100 back (59.35) and the 100 free (53.57). Wilson also had numerous top-finishes in the meet, placing first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.90. She also had three second-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (59.19), 100 backstroke (1:01.05) and the 100 free (53.90).
Okuna was successful in the 50 butterfly placing first (25.34) and also captured a second place finish in the 100 IM and a third-place finish in the 50 backstroke.
Pepperdine concludes fall action when it competes at the Speedo Cup from November 17-19 in Long Beach, Calif.
