Malibu, Calif. - Day one of the Speedo Cup hosted by UC Irvine came to a close at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach. The Waves had seven Top 25 finishes as Alison McLeod broke the school record in the 200 IM. The Waves stand at sixth place with 151 points with two more days of competition remaining.
Placing fifth with a time of 2:06.52 in the 200 IM, McLeod broke a record set by Ericka Keithly in 1995. The record marks the senior's first of the season and now holds three school records. In her rookie year last season, McLeod broke the school record in the 100 fly and 100 back.
Sophomore Haley Wilson also performed well in the 200 IM taking 13th with a time of 2:09.27.
Pepperdine's 400 free relay team of Danielle Kimmel, Amy Nightingale, Wilson and McLeod placed fourth in a time of 3:53.63. The team also took eighth place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:38.63.
Kimmel led the Waves in the 50 free swimming to the 21st spot in 24.92, while Loriann Mark led the Waves in the 500 free with a finish of 16th and a time of 5:14.34. Also swimming strong was freshman Brianna Blanchard who placed 24th with a time of 5:24.65.
Tomorrow's events will include the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay.
