(Long Beach, CA) Ashley Swart swam to a fourth place finish and a personal best yesterday as she and the Torero swim team hold sole possession of 9th place among 19 teams at the Speedo Cup.
San Diego had athletes in the 200 freestyle Relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and the 400 medley relay. Three Toreros made it past the preliminary round and into the finals in two separate events.
"Meghan Peters did well in her event, as well as Swart," said head coach Mike Keeler.
Peters swam a 50 meter freestyle preliminary qualifying time of 24:58. In her final, she swam a 24.60 placing 19th overall.
Ashley Swart had a qualifying time of 4:56.85. Swart's record-breaking time came during her heat in the finals when she posted a time of 4:52.04 good enough for 4th place. Swart held the previous school record in the 500 freestyle which was 4:53.15.
USD scored 106 points after day one of the competition with two days remaining.
"This is a tough swim meet and not all of our team is healthy, so we are missing some swimmers," said Keeler. "But we have a good attitude, we swam well in our events, and we are having fun."
USD continues with day 2 and seven different events to compete in. For further results, visit: 2005 Speedo Cup Results
