Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's tennis team fell to fourth-seeded Georgia Tech, 7-0, on Thursday morning in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the A.G. Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis. The Waves (2-2) will play in the consolation bracket at 9 a.m. on Friday. Their opponent will be determined later today.
The Yellow Jackets (1-0) won the doubles point after sweeping all three matches. Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray defeated Sylvia Kosakowski and Eva Dickes, 8-6, at No 1, while Alison Silverio and Tarryn Rudman defeated Bianca Dulgheru and Katia Sabate, 8-6. Pepperdine's Anete Bandere and Jillian Braverman fell in the tiebreaker to Kirsten Flower and Amanda Craddock at the third spot.
Raba fell 6-2 in both sets to No. 82 Silverio at No. 4 singles, while Bandere was defeated by Amanda McDowell 6-0, 6-1. To clinch the match, Kirsten Flower defeated Kosakowski, 6-3, 7-6.
Play was continued after the winner was determined with sixth-ranked Georgia Tech capturing the last three singles matches over No. 13 Pepperdine.
