Women's Tennis Loses Second Straight

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team was defeated today by the USC Trojans, one of the top five nationally ranked teams in the country by a score of 7-0. Nothing went the Toreros' way today as they were defeated in all their doubles matches and singles matches. Zoe Taylor, Alexandra Demidova, and Monica Wiesener were the only Toreros to capture three or more games in a set during singles play.

In doubles play, all three of the Toreros' teams were defeated 8-3 against the Trojans. In singles play, two of the matches were very close out of the six. USD's No. 1 singles player, Monica Wiesener was defeated by USC's Lindsey Nelson, 4-6, 6-4, and 8-10 in a tiebreaker. Wiesener was down in the second set 4-3 and came back to win the set to force the match to a tiebreaker. Wiesener was then down 5-2 in the tiebreaker and came back to tie it at 7-7, but fell short with a score of 10-8. Zoe Taylor also played a tough match almost coming back against USC's Dianne Matias, but was defeated 3-6, 3-6.

USD's No. 2 singles Helene Lindstrand was defeated by USC's Sarah Fansler 0-6, 1-6. USD's No. 3 singles Alexandra Demidova was defeated by USC's Amanda Fink 3-6, 0-6. USD's No. 5 singles Sophia Vogt was defeated by USC's Anca Anastasiu 1-6, 0-6, and USD's No. 6 singles Justine Perl was defeated by USC's Judy DeVera 0-6, 0-6.

The Toreros next home match is Saturday, February 6, 2007 against nationally ranked No. 52 Louisiana State University. The match will be at 1:30 PM and teh Toreros are looking to end their two game losing streak.
