Women's Tennis Comes From Behind; Defeats TCU, 4-3, in Consolation

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's tennis team came from behind to defeat Texas Christian, 4-3, in a dramatic consolation match at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Friday morning at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.

TCU (0-2) grabbed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. TCU's ninth-ranked doubles team of Ana Cetnik and Anna Sydorska defeated Syliva Kosakowski and Caroline Raba, 8-2, while Nina Munch-Soegaard and Kewa Nichols defeated Jillian Braverman and Anete Bandere 8-4. The Wave duo of Bianca Dulgheru and Katia Sabate dominated at No. 2 defeating Andrea Morgado and Karine Ionesco 8-2.

The Horned Frogs took a 2-0 lead when Munch-Soegaard defeated Sabate 6-2, 7-5, but the Waves pulled within one point after Bandere picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win over Morgado at No. 5. TCU, however, took a two-point lead once again when Cetnik upset No. 22 Dulgheru in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

Raba kept Pepperdine in the match when she put away Nichols 6-0, 6-2 at spot four, and Tania Rice tied the match score at 3-all after defeating Ionesco 7-6, 6-3.

One match remained with Kosakowski and No. 100 Sydorska battling at the second position. After Kosakowski took the first match 6-3, Sydorska forced a third set when she won 6-4 in the second. Kosakowski clinched the win for the Waves when she won 7-5 in the third set.

Pepperdine (3-2) continues play in the consolation bracket on Saturday when they face host Wisconsin at 7 a.m. (PT).
