Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's tennis team opened their season today at home with a 6-1 victory over the University of Pacific. The Gaels looked great at home and were able to roll through the visiting Tigers.
The Gaels began play with the doubles competitions. Back-to-back All-WCC doubles team Aude Lambert and Jessica Hoath were again dominant in doubles play. The two won 8-4. Marah Calvo and Erin Young won their match 8-3.
Femke Strijbis and Nienke Stijbis took their 3-0 doubles record into today's match. The two began the match leading 3-2 when they caught fire and ended the match on a 5-1 run. The twins improved their record to 4-0 with today's 8-3 victory.
Aude Lambert looked sharp in her singles match winning 6-4, 6-3.
Jessica Hoath was able to notch a victory on her 20th birthday. The junior dropped the first 1-6. She gathered herself together and won the next set 6-4. Hoath won the tie breaker 10-5 to seal the deal.
Reigning WCC Freshman of the Year Erin Young and her doubles partner Marah Calvo were successful in both doubles and singles play. In singles play, both Young and Calvo won their first sets 6-0 before winning the match in the second set.
Stef Ordoveza won her macth in two sets 6-4, 6-1.
