Bulldogs Post Wins Over Albertson, LCSC

LEWISTON, Idaho - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team earned a pair of wins Sunday, posting victories over Albertson College and Lewis-Clark State College. The Zags downed Albertson, 7-0, and defeated LCSC, 6-1.

With the wins, Gonzaga improves to 2-2 overall for the season.

Against Albertson, Gonzaga swept the Coyotes without dropping a set. In doubles action, the Bulldog duo of Sydney Lederhouse and Courtney Lau, playing in the No. 2 position, defeated Kate Leadbetter and Kim Clements 8-1. At the No. 3 position, Carrie Schofield and Agalya Kokurina downed Tara Wensel and Melissa Rowe 8-0. Emily Anderson and Kendall Bates earned a win in the No. 1 spot, defeating Kyla Westerberg and Amanda McEldowney 2-0 (ret.).

In singles play, Anderson earned her second victory of the season in the No. 1 position over Westerberg (6-0, 6-0). Lederhouse earned a vicory at No. 2 over Leadbetter (6-0, 6-1). Bates won playing in the No. 3 spot over Clements (6-2, 6-0) and Kokurina defeated McEldowney in the No. 4 position (6-0, 6-0). Rounding out singles play was Kimberly Aigner earning a win over Karin Hayashida at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0) and Schofield earning a victory playing No. 6 with a win over Rowe (6-0, 6-2).

The Bulldogs nearly completed a clean sweep of the day, but were unable to accomplish the feat, dropping only three sets to the Warriors.

In doubles action, the Bulldogs earned wins at all three positions. Playing No. 1, Anderson and Bates downed Maria Resende and Rachel Moorhead, 9-7. Lederhouse and Erin Humphrey earned a victory playing in the No. 2 spot with a 9-7 win over Shefat Baishakhi, while Lau and Schofield combined to defeat Mei Fong and Courtney Childers 8-3 in the No. 3 position.

Anderson continued her solid play in singles action, earning a victory at No. 1 over Resende (6-2, 6-3). Bates earned a victory playing in the No. 3 position over Moorhead (6-4, 6-2). In the No. 4 spot, Kokurina defeated Chan (6-1, 6-1). Schofield pulled out a three-set victory in the No. 5 spot over Crane (6-4, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (8)). Rounding out singles play victories was Lau, who defeated Carla Jones (6-0, 6-1) in the No. 6 position. Lederhouse was the only Zag to drop her singles match, falling to Baishakhi (6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (5)) in the No. 2 spot.

The Bulldogs will continue play next weekend when they travel to the Bay Area to take on West Coast Conference foes Saint Mary's College, Santa Clara University and the University of San Francisco.
