Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's team improved to 4-0 as they blanked conference opponent Gonzaga earlier today. The Gaels blanked the Bulldogs 7-0 en route to victory.
The Gaels began play today with doubles matches. Aude Lambert and Jessica Hoath defeated their opponents 8-5. Femke Strijbis played her first doubles match without twin sister Nienke. Today she paired up with Stef Ordoveza and the two won their match 8-4. Marah Calvo and Erin Young won their doubles match 8-3. Calvo and Young have improved to 3-0 as a team.
Calvo and Young were as dominant in singles as they were in doubles. Calvo won her fourth straight match 6-0, 6-2. Young won her match 6-1, 6-0. Calvo and Young were not the only Gaels to win quickly. All of the completed matches were won by the Gaels in two sets. Lambert won her match 6-2, 6-4. This marks the fifth straight singles match that Lambert has won. Hoath won her match 6-4, 6-2. Ordoveza won her match by default, giving the Gaels the 7-0 final score.
They Gaels return to conference action this Sunday when they hit the road in defense of their perfect record. The Gaels will face off against Santa Clara in Santa Clara, CA. The match will begin at 11:00 a.m.
