SAN FRANCISCO, Calif - Aglaya Kokurina earned her second singles win in as many days Sunday, but the Gonzaga University women's tennis team was unable to defeat the University of San Francisco Sunday, falling 6-1 in San Francisco.
With the loss, Gonzaga falls to 2-4, including 0-4 against West Coast Conference schools. USF improves to 2-3.
Kokurina earned Gonzaga's lone point for the day playing in the No. 4 spot, defeating Jenny Sperry (7-5, 4-6 (10-5)). In other singles action, Emily Anderson fell at the No. 1 position to Camille Parmart (6-4, 5-7, 10-7), while Sydney Lederhouse fell at No. 2 to Emma Taylor (6-2, 6-4). Playing in the No. 3 position was Kendall Bates who fell to Mylene Martin (6-2, 6-1). Rounding out singles play was Carrie Schfield and Courtney Lau, both who were unable to earn victories playing in the No. 5 and 6 positions, respectively.
Gonzaga was unable to avoid the sweep in doubles play, despite playing the Dons close. At the No. 1 spot, Anderson and Bates fell to Marton and Pamart (8-7), while at No. 2 Lederhouse and Erin Humphrey were defeated by Taylor and Sperry (8-6). Lay and Schofield combined at No. 3, falling to Valerie Meise and Joann Macedo (8-2).
The Zags will return to play Friday when they host the University of Idaho at 7 p.m.
