Women's Tennis Improves to 5-0

Santa Clara, CA - The Saint Mary's women's tennis team made the Sunday drive to Santa Clara today to face off with their Bay Area Rival. The Gaels beat the Broncos 7-0 to improve to 5-0 on the season, 2-0 in conference play and 3-0 on the road. Today's win marks the second straight conference opponent that the Gaels have beaten by a score of 7-0 this season.

In doubles play Aude Lambert and partner Jessica Hoath won their second straight doubles match 8-6. The two improve to 3-1 as a team. Marah Calvo and Erin Young remain the hot doubles team. The two have yet to lose a double match, winning their fourth straight by a score of 8-5.

In singles play the Gaels won every match in two sets. Aude Lambert won her sixth straight singles match by a score of 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. Jessica Hoath won her singles match by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Hoath is 4-1 in her last five singles matches. Femke Strijbis won her third straight singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-1.

Newcomer Marah Calvo has done everything right for the Gaels this season. Not only has the transfer won all of her doubles matches this season, but she hasn't lost a singles match either. She won her fifth straight singles match today 6-3, 6-1.

Erin Young won her match 6-2, 6-4. The Former WCC Freshman of the Year has won three straight singles matches as well as five of her last six singles matches. Stef Ordoveza gave the Gaels their second straight sweep today. She won her match 6-4, 6-2.

The Gaels will return to action next Saturday when they face the UC Davis Aggies at 2:00 p.m. from the Korth Tennis Complex.
