Mustangs Clear No. 64 LMU, 4-3Cal Poly Women's Tennis

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif -- The Cal Poly women's tennis team won its second consecutive home dual of the season, 4-3, over Loyola Marymount Friday afternoon at Mustang Courts. The win improves the Mustangs' overall record to 4-6, while the Lions, who moved to No. 64 in this week's ITA rankings, fall to 3-2.

The Lions juggled their line-up in the singles position and could not adjust as Cal Poly recorded four singles victories to clinch match. The Lions continued their solid play at doubles with all three teams taking their match.

Like the singles, the doubles teams where changed for this one as Pavla Mesterova and Robyn Baker paired at No. 1 doubles for the first time this spring and earned an 8-4 win. Mesterova is 5-0 in doubles action this spring.

Erin Ivey and Serena Fermin earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles while Tamara Tanner and Bliss Nixon won their match at No. 3, 8-5.

For the Lions, Mesterova earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and Elrien de Villiers improved to 5-0 this spring with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.

The match came down to No. 6 singles where Nixon fell in a three-set heartbreaker, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The Lions will return to action at the LMU Tennis Center when they host UCLA on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
