Women's Tennis Keeps on Rolling

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's tennis team improved to 9-0 today as they defeated the No. 69 Loyola Marymount Lions by a score of 5-2. Today marked the second ranked opponent that the Gaels have beaten this season. The Gaels have also posted a 4-0 record against conference opponents.

The competition got underway with doubles matches. The Gaels were ready to compete after dropping yesterday's doubles matches. Aude Lambert and Jessica Hoath breezed by their competition winning 8-2. The No. 52 ranked tag team of Femke Strijbis and Nienke Strijbis also won their match 8-2. The twins improve to 7-0 as a doubles team. Marah Calvo teamed up with Stef Ordoveza today in double and the two won their match 8-6. The Gaels had completed their goal of sweeping doubles matches and took the 1-0 lead.

Calvo kept her singles streak alive today winning her match in two sets with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Calvo has won all nine of her singles matches for the Gaels. Erin Young finished next for the Gaels winning her match 6-3, 6-0. Young has won seven straight singles matches.

With the Gaels up 3-0 No. 94 Femke Strijbis sealed the deal for the Gaels as she won her match 6-2, 6-2. This gave the Gaels a 4-0 lead and their ninth straight victory. Femke provided the competition winner earlier in the season for the Gaels as well. She recorded the winning point against Cal Poly.

Stef Ordoveza provided the fifth point for the Gaels as she won her match 6-1, 6-4. Aude Lambert dropped a tough match to a tough opponent. Pavla Mesterova, who been on and off the national rankings this season won the match 6-4, 7-5. Jessica Hoath also dropped her match by the same score of 6-4, 7-5. This gave the Gaels the final score of 5-2 and their ninth straight victory.

The Gaels will return to action next Friday when the fly down to San Diego to compete in the USD tournament.
