SEATTLE, Wash. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team defeated the Idaho Vandals at the University of Washington by a score of 4-3. With the win, the Toreros improve to 4-3 on the season and currently stand at No. 62 in the nation.
San Diego took the doubles point with a sweep, as all three Torero duos downed their opposition. Emma Murphy and Lauren Perl defeated Idaho's Patricia Ruman and Mariel Tinnirello 8-3 and Helend Linstrand and Jenny Brown took an 8-1 victory over the Vandals' Kareen Konishi and Efrat Leopold. Sophia Vogt and Brittany Reitz completed the San Diego sweep with an 8-3 victory over Lauren Shrubb and Kasie King.
In singles action, the Toreros clinched victories in three spots. Senior Emma Murphy, who is currently at No. 100 in the nation, defeated Idaho's Ruman 6-2, 6-1. Jenny Brown took a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tinnirello and Helene Lindstrand defeated Konishi in the No. 4 spot by scores of 7-6 and 6-3.
The Toreros face the host Huskies Sunday, March 5 in an 11:00 a.m. match at Washington's Nordstrom Tennis Center.
