No. 10 Miami Defeats No. 21 Pepperdine 6-1 on Sunday

Malibu, Calif. - The No. 21 Pepperdine women's tennis team fell to No. 10 Miami 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Florida. The Waves dropped to 9-2 on the season, while the Hurricanes moved to 8-3 overall.

Miami won the doubles point after the No. 21 doubles tandem of Melissa Applebaum and Audra Cohen topped Pepperdine's 42nd ranked pair of Sylvia Kosakowski and Merve Asimgil, 8-3. At court No. 3, sophomore Caren Seenauth and Patricia Starzyk defeated Lise Sissler and Natalie Braverman 8-6.

After a 2-0 deficit, the Waves fought back when Braverman topped No. 84 Applebaum 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 3 position. But the Hurricanes took a 3-1 match lead when Cohen, ranked 13th in the nation, defeated No. 26 Bianca Dulgheru, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. As the matches at the second, fourth and sixth positions were beginning third sets, Monika Dancevic clinched the match win for the Hurricanes at the No. 2 slot with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Kosakowski.

The Waves return home to begin a nine-match home stand on Friday, March 10 when they face No. 58 Penn in a 1:30 p.m. match.
