Lions Sweep Spartans

San Jose, CA (March 9) - The Loyola Marymount women's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep over San Jose State on Friday afternoon in San Jose, Calif. The Lions improve to 3-1 on their current five-match road trip and 6-4 overall on the year. The road trip ends on Sunday at No. 9 California.

The Lion started the match with a sweep at doubles as Pavla Mesterova and Robyn Baker won their fourth straight at No. 1 singles to improve to 4-0 in dual match action with an 8-2 win. Serena Fermin and Tamara Tanner claimed an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles while Audrey Bulkley and Bliss Nixon earned an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.

Mesterova continues her hot streak at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Ashley Tavita. The win is Mesterova's seventh straight as she improves to 8-1 in singles action this spring. She is 16-4 overall on the year and ranked 56th in the nation.

At No. 2 singles, Baker improved to 6-6 on the season with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-1 win. It is her fourth straight win in singles. Also earning wins in singles was Tanner at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2; Fermin at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-0, Elrien de Villiers at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-0 and Bulkley at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). Bulkley is 4-1 on the season and is 2-0 in dual match play.
