Malibu, Calif. - The No. 14 Pepperdine women's tennis team defeated No. 15 Baylor 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. The Waves picked up their 11th win of the season, while the Bears dropped to 11-3 on the season.
Pepperdine (11-2) swept the doubles to win the point with the No. 34 Wave duo of Merve Asimgil and Sylvia Kosakowski upsetting No. 24 Zuzana Cerna and Klara Zrustova 8-5 at court one. No. 17 Eva Dickes and Bianca Dulgheru took down the Bear duo of Zuzana Zemenova and Iva Mihaylova 8-5, while Natalie Braverman and Caroline Raba came from behind to defeat Daniela Covello and Zuzana Krchnakvoa in the tiebreaker.
The Bears did let the deficit discourage them as they evened the score after recording a win on court two. No. 125 Braverman gave the Waves a point when she defeated Zrustova 6-3, 6-2, but Baylor took the lead registering victories in the third and sixth positions. Dickes once again proved to be vital for the Waves as she came back to win in the third set over Krchnakova. As the night approached, all eyes rested on court one where No. 34 Dulgheru upset No. 12 Zemenova 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 to clinch the match for Pepperdine.
The Waves are next in action on Friday, March 17 when they face No. 59 New Mexico at 1:30 p.m. at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.
