MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Waves fell to the Baylor Bears 6-1 Wednesday afternoon at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. With the loss, Pepperdine fell to 8-7 on the year, while Baylor improved to 9-6.
Things got off to a great start for Pepperdine which entered play with a modest two-match win streak. Sylvia Kosakowski and Bianca Dulgheru made quick work of the No. 1 Baylor doubles team of Zuzana Cerna and Zazana Chmelarova, 8-0. But the Bears won the point by claiming victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to gain momentum heading into single's play.
Baylor extended its lead to 2-0 after Lenka Broosova defeated Eva Dickes, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 3 position. Behind Braverman's straight-set, 6-1, 6-2, victory over Chmelarova at No. 6, Pepperdine closed the gap to one at 2-1. But that was the only point the Waves would pick up on the day as Baylor took straight-set victories at No. 2 and No. 1 and clinched the match.
Pepperdine will continue its nine-match homestand Friday at 1:30 p.m. PDT when it hosts Virginia Commonwealth.
